While this class is a mighty weapons platform, it also marked a renewed interest in using Star Destroyers as carriers for fighters and ground forces. In addition to the heavy turbolaser turrets and batteries, this design includes point-defense weapons such as anti-fighter turrets and missile emplacements for defense against smaller ships such as fighters. The immense destructive potential of these weapons allows them to overload their targets’ shields, penetrate deep into heavy armor, and even turn the very ground under (or above) their planetary targets into molten slag with relative ease and speed. The Finalizer was armed with several powerful turbolasers that were capable of unleashing brutal barrages on planetary targets from orbit and exchanging fire with other capital ships in prolonged battles. That said, the Finalizer, Kylo Ren’s personal Star Destroyer, is the first of its class.īuilt in clear violation of the New Republic’s treaties with the First Order regarding the size and armament of capital ships, a Resurgent class Star Destroyer should be feared and respected. While the First Order lacks the resources to build, operate, and maintain war ships of this class on a scale anywhere near that of the Imperial Fleets’, this design still brings back memories of the Empire’s might in addition to being formidable in its own right.
Designed by the First Order, the mighty Resurgent class Star Destroyers were meant to be evocative of the Empire’s capital ships.
